The Lackawaxen area is ideal for those who enjoy historical points of interest and the great outdoors. Situated on the Delaware River, residents of Lackawaxen PA real estate enjoy kayaking, tubing, and rafting. During the early 18th century, logging was the principal commercial activity in Lackawaxen. Logs were fastened together and floated down the two rivers, eventually reaching Easton or Trenton. In 1848, The Roebling Aqueduct Suspension Bridge in Lackawaxen was built as an aqueduct to carry canal boats over the Delaware River. It stands today as a landmark for one of the oldest suspension bridges in the entire country. John Roebling, the architect for the Brooklin Bridge, designed the wire cable suspension structure, which was used as the prototype for the Brooklyn Bridge. Once the home of Zane Grey, a prolific writer of western novels, the Zane Grey Museum is a favorite destination among history and literature buffs. Guided tours of the museum are offered seasonally and a Zane Grey Festival is held each year.  Access to the Delaware River in Lackawaxen is the Zane Grey Public Access Point.  The Delaware River supports a healthy ecosystem and offers opportunities for a variety of recreational activities.

 

Ski Big Bear is a skiing and snowboarding resort located in Masthope in Lackawaxen Township. While open to the public, it is an amenity of the Masthope Mountain Community and community property owners receive a season pass as part of their annual community dues. Ski Big Bear offers 18 trails, 7 lifts including 2 Magic Carpet lifts, and 650′ of vertical. The mountain is covered annually with approximately 50 inches of snow.  Snowmakers make sure the trails are blanketed with as much snow as possible.  Ski-Big Bear offers trails for all skill levels ranging from beginner to double black diamond.
